A comparative experimental study on damping properties of epoxy nanocomposite beams reinforced with carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoplatelets

Abstract Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) are extremely ideal nanofillers for applications in damping polymer. This work explores the behavior of polymer nanocomposite beams made epoxy resin reinforced with CNTs GNPs experimentally. Beam specimens vibration tests together dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) fabricated different weight ratios GNPs, upon which DMA free conducted. Scanning electron microscope images also obtained to check dispersion microscale. It is found that first-order loss factor composite beam shows a rise 41.1% at 0.4 wt% CNT content compared pure epoxy, while 0.025 GNP increases up by 128.9%. The maximum value reinforcement 62.2% higher than CNTs.
